So you’ve now decided to run the Scotiabank Half Marathon and 5K race on June 26, 2016! Congratulations!
The next step? I think it’s a great idea to look at supporting one of the charities in the charity challenge!
Taken from the website:
Make your Half Marathon or 5k more meaningful by going the distance for one of our Official Charities. Run or walk in honour of a loved one or to simply give something back to your community. No matter which distance you participate in, your fundraising makes a difference!
Simply choosing a charity and raising donations brings them closer to their goal! Check out the great incentive programs unique to each charity team—to keep you motivated and to reward your efforts! Incentives are listed on each charity team page, and may include: Free entries, gear, prizes and/or great post/pre-run parties!
The reason why I first ran the Scotia Half was in 2014 I had won an entry from the Team in Training BC/Yukon. By being part of the Team in Training, I got training available from a running coach, had support from fellow team members and had a lot of fun at the social events with them!
Here was a pre-race social event where we got to meet members of the team.
Here we are pre-race with the team!
Here we are, getting a pep talk from our running coach, Joseph!
Here we are at the start line, getting ready to start the race!
Cheers! We finished the race and have congregated at the Team in Training tent!
Here we are, the team posing in front of the tent! Well done team! Team in Training is not participating in the race this year but there are a number of charities who do similar programs that you can choose!
This year, I am going to raise funds for Alzheimer Society of BC, which is a featured charity of the 2016 Scotiabank Charity Challenge. This disease has affected my own family recently and I’d like to raise awareness for it!
This is the fundraising page that I have created. You can create the same kind of page for your charity!
